The search for a man from the west coast of Newfoundland has been turned over to the RCMP.

Richard Crocker, 45, has been missing since late Wednesday.

He left Summerside, in the Bay of Islands, in his 8-metre cabin cruiser for a trip that would normally take about three hours.

The military began searching Thursday morning when he failed to arrive at Trout River, in Gros Morne National Park.

On Friday, the wreckage of his boat was found on a beach at nearby Sally's Cove.

Later that day, the military handed over the file to the RCMP as a missing persons case.
