Seamus O'Regan, the newly elected Liberal MP for St. John's South-Mount Pearl, has entered a "wellness program" so he can adopt an "alcohol-free lifestyle," according to a public message sent from his Twitter account on Sunday.

O'Regan said he entered the program over the holiday break, but will return to his parliamentary duties before the end of the month.
I will return to my duties as the Member of Parliament for St. John’s South - Mount Pearl prior to Parliament resuming in January. 3/4— @SeamusORegan
...I will have more to say on this subject later. In the meantime, my family and I ask for privacy. Thank you. 4/4— @SeamusORegan
O'Regan ousted NDP incumbent Ryan Cleary in the St. John's South-Mount Pearl riding back in October, in a sweep that put the Liberals in government.
Touted throughout the campaign as a star candidate for the Liberals, O'Regan is a close friend of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who tweeted his support for the MP on Sunday evening.
My thoughts are with my friend & colleague @SeamusORegan tonight, and he has my full support.— @JustinTrudeau
Before making the move to politics, he co-hosted CTV's Canada AM for nearly a decade.
