Scam preys on emotions over Labrador forest fires
Police in western Newfoundland say two people in Corner Brook are trying to profit from the misfortune of forest fire victims in Labrador.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said Tuesday it is investigating complaints about people asking for "donations in aid of the residents of Labrador affected by the recent forest fires."
Forest fires in western Labrador have destroyed cabins and prompted a two-day evacuation of Wabush.
The RNC said two females were canvassing the Aspen Road neighbourhood in Corner Brook on Monday night.
Neither female had any accreditation. The RNC said the complainant turned down the request for money.
Police said there is no known campaign raising funds for residents of Labrador.
