A byelection has brought a new face to Corner Brook city council.

Gary Kelly, a health-care manager, won a five-way race for a spare seat on council, taking 987 votes. June Alteen was his nearest rival, with 656 votes cast.

The byelection was called after Coun. Charlie Renouf died in January.

Other candidates included Trent Quinton, with 530 votes, Alton Whelan with 471 votes, and Tarragh Shanahan with 208.
