Officials say Roncalli Elementary in St. John's will open on schedule next week, even though the school site looks like a construction yard.

Two years ago, the province announced $20-million worth of work for the school. The ongoing extension project was scheduled to be finished in September.

The English Language School District says it hopes that will be the case.

In a recent letter to parents, the district said the Department of Transportation and Works has advised "that the school will be ready to open."

The letter added that the district is monitoring the progress of the work, and there may be a delay in the gymnasium opening, as the floor is being completed.

The board expects to have a further update by Wednesday.
