Royal Newfoundland Constabulary investigators were knocking on doors in a St. John's neighbourhood Wednesday after a house was damaged by gunfire.

Neighbour Kjellrun Hestekin said investigators were asking if she had heard or seen anything after shots were fired at the Nascopie Crescent house.

"Well I was sleeping but I heard a weird noise and that was it. I was sound asleep when it happened," she said.

"It didn't register as gunshots to me. It sounded like a big scraping noise, but there were obviously several shots fired, so I supposed I just heard the sequence [of] shots, and half asleep it registered as a scraping sound."

Seeing the house with its windows boarded up was "pretty weird," Hestekin said.

"This is usually a pretty quiet neighbourhood."

Police responded to a call on Nascopie Crescent shortly before 2:30 a.m. The RNC said Wednesday morning that the front of a house was damaged by at least one gunshot.

No one was injured and no arrests have been made.
