Police in St. John's are investigating an unusual incident that happened at Cape Spear on Saturday afternoon.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary said a man was seen standing in waist-deep water on the shoreline at around 5 p.m.

When park personnel approached the man, he ran northwest on a path that passes near the main parking lot.

RNC officers checked the shoreline where he was last spotted, but didn't find anything.

Police said all parked vehicles were checked and accounted for.

It is unknown if the man re-entered the water or left in a vehicle.
