The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary has been called to investigate what appears to be a case of fraud at St. Patrick's Parish in St. John's.

In 2012, the parish priest reported his suspicions of missing money to the archdiocese business office.

As a result, external auditors were brought in to examine the books and the Constabulary was called in, based on the results of that audit.

The parish said the alleged fraud involves a former lay employee.
