Crews in Rigolet were working Monday to put out the remnants of a fire at the coastal Labrador community's landfill.
Charlotte Wolfrey, the angajukKâk, or mayor, of Rigolet, said the fire started Sunday afternoon. Provincial fire crews arrived with a water bomber that helped douse the flames.
On Monday, the local fire department was on the scene.
"We're still working at it," she said. "They were actually working all last night and are still working today at the smouldering and the hot spots."
The landfill is just three kilometres away from some homes.
Woolfrey said an excavator was being used to dig trenches near the site.
She said the town is ready to evacaute if the situation changes.
