The St. John's Convention Centre was firmly packed with Republic of Doyle cast, crew, and fans on Wednesday night for the premiere of the show's fifth season.
Fans also got a chance to catch a glimpse of the Doyle stars as they walked down the red carpet, including Allan Hawco (who plays leading man Jake Doyle), Krystin Pellerin (police officer Leslie Bennett), Sean McGinley (Malachy Doyle), and Lynda Boyd (Rose Doyle).
Mark O'Brien, who plays Des Courtney, said the cast has had a hectic schedule.
"It's been a really busy year. We're doing 16 episodes this year, and the premiere is earlier this year [than in the past]," he said.
Marthe Bernard, who portrays Tinny Doyle, said the crew isn't usually still shooting when the show goes to air.
While cast members wouldn't give anything away about the new season, O'Brien did say that Des is still clinging for dear life to Tinny's heart.
"It's pretty cool to be a part of one of those relationships that you see on TV, like [Friends characters] Rachel and Ross — one of the TV relationships that people will always see, Des with Tinny, and Tinny with Des," she said.
Bernard said the Des-Tinny relationship will progress this season.
"The viewers will be interested to tune in for sure," she said.
The Republic of Doyle airs Wednesdays at 9:30 p.m. in Newfoundland, 9 p.m. in the rest of Canada, on CBC Television.
