Reid takes on volunteerism project
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams has tapped one of his closest advisers to run a new provincial volunteerism initiative.
Ross Reid has been appointed deputy minister in charge of the volunteer and non-profit sector, the premier's office announced Thursday.
Reid, 55, had been deputy minister in the premier's office until last January, when he resigned to work full time on the governing Progressive Conservatives' re-election campaign.
Reid was the MP for St. John's East between 1988 and 1993 and briefly served as federal fisheries minister.
Reid started his new job on Tuesday.
The government announced a specific cabinet portfolio for the volunteer sector in the shuffle that followed this October's general election. Tom Hedderson, who was also appointed intergovernmental affairs minister, was given the portfolio.
