RCMP make two arrests in central Newfoundland hit and run
After an intensive police investigation, two arrests have been made following a hit and run accident that happened on March 8 in Grand Falls-Windsor.
A 25-year-old woman was arrested last week and has been charged with impaired driving and failure to remain at the scene of an accident.
The same woman had been treated and released from hospital, with significant, but non life-threatening injuries.
The RCMP's initial investigation revealed that the injured female driver had been transported to hospital by a second vehicle. Police located that vehicle later the same morning — and learned that it was being operated by a male driver who was under the influence of alcohol.
The man, 40, was arrested in relation to a second case of impaired driving. Police said his blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.
He now faces impaired driving-related charges and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on May 22. The woman's court appearance is set for June 12. Both are residents of Grand Falls-Windsor.
