The RCMP in Happy Valley-Goose Bay have identified human remains discovered on the banks of the Churchill River on Nov. 4.

A trapper living in the area discovered the remains, which sparked a police investigation.

Police have been working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner into the investigation for the past several weeks.

The remains have been positively identified as Ryan Russell of Charlottetown, Labrador.

Russell was one of three people swept over a 15-metre waterfall on the Churchill River in Labrador on May 18, 2010. The three young men had been canoeing at the time of the incident.

The men were millwright students at the College of the North Atlantic campus in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and had been scheduled to graduate from the program two days after the boating accident.
