A 29-year-old man has been arrested in St. John's on a 2008 warrant issued in Quebec following an attempted murder there.
David Wayne Murray appeared in court Thursday afternoon, and is facing attempted murder charges that date back to when he was in a Quebec City prison.
An inmate in the prison was hit with an object 30 times.
Quebec provincial police were in St. John's to bring Murray back to their province.
Murray, along with Quebec police officers, boarded a chartered plane Thursday afternoon leaving St. John's for Quebec City.
Murray is also facing charges of assault with a weapon and aggravated assault.
He was arrested by Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers on Wednesday night in St. John's.
However, Murray is fighting the charges, questioning why it took police so long to arrest him for the incident.
He argued that he has not had time to consult with his lawyer.
