Lieutenant governor Frank Fagan invested seven residents of the province into the Order of Newfoundland and Labrador on Friday.

The investiture ceremony took place at Government House in St. John's.

The inductees include Bridget Foster, Dr. Jane Stuart Green, Margaret Kearney, Colleen Kennedy, Gilbert Linstead, Sara Rita Sexton and Kevin St. George.

Sexton, the mother of late actor Tommy Sexton, is known for her contribution to AIDS awareness.

"This is what drove me to trying to bring into the minds of people that they are good human beings," she said.

"This has happened to them, but we don't throw them out, you know, we embrace them and we try to make things better for them."

Each individual was presented with an insignia of the Order, a stylized pitcher plant, a lapel pin and a certificate embossed with the seal of the Order and signed by the lieutenant governor.

The Order of Newfoundland and Labrador is the highest honour of the province.
