Brief power outages were reported across Newfoundland on Friday evening.

Shortly before 7 p.m. the power failed in parts of the Avalon Peninsula, the Burin Peninsula, central Newfoundland and the west coast.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro confirmed something happened with one of its units in Holyrood that caused the system to trip. But the outages were short-lived as the utility said it had enough electricity available from other sources to bring all customers back online.

Crews are investigating the cause of the problem in Holyrood.
