Brandon McMillan scored the winning goal on a third-period power play as the Syracuse Crunch beat the St. John's IceCaps 4-3 on home ice in American Hockey League action Saturday night.

Kyle Palmieri shot the puck on net and McMillan knocked the puck past Ice Caps goaltender Ed Pasquale for his first goal of the series.

The best-of-five Eastern Conference quarter-final is tied 1-1. Game 3 is Wednesday in St. John's, N.L.

Mark Bell, Mat Clark and John Mitchell also scored for Syracuse.

Aaron Gagnon, with two goals, and Patrice Cormier replied for St. John's.

Iiro Tarkki stopped 18 shots for Syracuse.

Pasquale made 36 saves for St. John's.

The IceCaps jumped out to an early lead when Gagnon scored 41 seconds in on St. John's first shot of the game.

The Crunch tied the game at the 11:03 mark of the first period when Bell lunged for a loose puck and slipped it past Pasquale. The goal was Bell's second goal in as many nights.   

Clark gave the Crunch a 2-1 lead just 41 seconds into the second period. Clark's shot from the point bounced off multiple players in front of the net before trickling over the goal-line.

Two minutes later Mitchell threw the puck on net and it was deflected past Pasquale for a 3-1 Crunch lead.

Patrice Cormier started an IceCaps comeback 4:18 into the second period, then Gagnon tied the game with his second goal of the night 46 seconds into the third. Gagnon scored off the rebound of a Jason DeSantis shot on a power play.
