The mayor of Port au Choix believes there's more to a recent provincial government funding announcement than just the money.

Mayor Carolyn Lavers says her council, along with those in Hawke's Bay and Port Saunders, applied separately for funds to upgrade their water systems.

Then last week, the government made one announcement that it was giving the three towns a lump sum of $243,000.

Lavers believes it's a sign of things to come.

"I just think it's sending the message, that's all, that we have to regionalize. We have to regionalize our services. I was just making the point that I thought it was interesting that it was announced that way."

Lavers says the three towns discussed sharing some services several years ago, but the idea was rejected.
