Poppy can thief pleads guilty
A man who stole donation cans from charities in the St. John's region pleaded guilty Tuesday to 13 theft charges.
Phillip Field, 40, pleaded guilty to stealing eight poppy cans that the Royal Canadian Legion was using last fall to collect donations.
Field also pleaded guilty in St. John's provincial court to charges that he took an Autism Society donation can and Adoption Foundation donations.
The St. John's man also admitted that earlier this spring he took money from two gas stations and stole a woman's purse.
He did not enter pleas on two break and enter charges.
Field is due back in court in late June for a sentencing hearing.
