Police seek help locating wanted woman
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary in St. John's is seeking the public's help in locating a woman that may be violent and dangerous.
Tara Maher, 28, is wanted on a number of charges.
The RNC were called to a supermarket in Mount Pearl on Monday after receiving notification of a theft in progress.
Maher was identified as the suspect in the incident.
She was also located that night shortly before 8 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot on Merchant Drive, where Maher was being pursued by security.
Police said Maher was found in a stolen vehicle parked in the lot.
She allegedly struck one of the officers with the car when the RNC tried to arrest her.
The officer was injured in the incident, but police are not specifying the extent of the injuries.
Maher took off in the stolen vehicle, driving in a dangerous manner, police said.
She is charged with assault with a weapon against a peace officer, three counts of theft under $5,000, driving while prohibited, breach of probation, dangerous operation of a vehicle, possession of stolen property, and leaving the scene of an accident.
The RNC is asking anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers, and not to approach the suspect.
