Charred remains and a burned-out pickup truck are all that remain at the scene of a cabin fire where police found the remains of three people.

RCMP in Deer Lake earlier this week identified the remains as a woman, 50, and her young son, both from Trout River, and another man, 56, from Gillams.

Sgt. Marc Coulombe said they won't be releasing the identities of the deceased.

"We were able to identify the individuals as a man, a woman and a child. At this time we have notified the family, but the family has asked that no names be released," Coulombe said.

Coulombe said the case is still under criminal investigation and police are waiting on the autopsy reports.

"Things like toxicology reports sometimes can take a while, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will leave no stone unturned," Coulombe said.

He said there is no set time frame for the information to come in from the examiner.
