Police investigating vehicle accident near Lewisporte
Alcohol believed to be factor
The Victoria Day weekend has recorded its first serious traffic accident.
RCMP said a single-vehicle accident took place in the Lewisporte area early Saturday morning.
Police were dispatched around 4 a.m. to Rte. 340 near Michael's Harbour, regarding an eastbound vehicle that left the road and struck a utility pole, snapping it in half.
The driver, a 30-year-old male resident of Lewisporte, was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The victim was freed by fire and rescue officials using hydraulic rescue tools, and was then transported to hospital in Gander with unspecified injuries.
Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the incident.
