The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary happened to be at the Avalon Mall early Monday morning when a woman accused of driving while impaired slammed into the building.
The RNC had been called to the mall after midnight when an alarm went off, signalling a theft from a kiosk.
The RNC brought a dog unit, but was unable to make an arrest in that case.
While officers were in the mall, they got a call of something happening outside.
A vehicle had gone off the road and smashed into the mall. The woman behind the wheel fled the scene in another vehicle, but police tracked her down. The woman, 55, was charged with drunk driving.
The collision is not related to the reported theft.
