Police believe two armed robberies may be connected
Two armed robberies late Monday night on the northeast Avalon Peninsula involving thieves wearing masks may be related, police said.
Shortly before 10:00 p.m., a masked suspect wielding a knife entered Marie's Mini Mart on Stavanger Drive.
Police said the man demanded cash and cigarettes but only got away with cigarettes.
He is described as being 5'5" with a tiny build, and was wearing a tan jacket, black sweat pants and a ski mask.
Then, around 10:30 p.m., the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to an armed robbery in Mount Pearl.
Three masked suspects entered Barbour's Convenience on Holden Street armed with an undisclosed weapon and demanded cash and cigarettes.
The three men fled on foot with cigarettes.
Police said one man was wearing a blue plaid jacket, another had on a brown work jacket and the third was wearing an orange jacket with reflective stripes.
No injuries were reported in either robbery.
