Placentia wins Manning Award for historical excellence
The Town of Placentia won the community Manning Award on Friday for public presentation of the community's history.
The Manning Awards mark the efforts of groups and individuals in the presentation and preservation of Newfoundland and Labrador's history and heritage.
Presentation of the awards was held at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John's.
Mayor Wayne Power accepted the award on behalf on his community, commemorating Placentia's 350th anniversary celebrations.
"It's a great recognition of the efforts that were put forward to celebrate the rich history that Placentia has, and it also gives us an opportunity to showcase our community and invite people to come visit us and explore that rich history," Power said.
According to Power, the people involved worked hard to ensure the anniversary would be spectacular.
"We have a great contingent here today from the group and we're all looking forward to bringing it back and celebrating in Placentia."
Power said the town welcomes the spotlight the award will put on Placentia, and hopefully will entice people to visit.
