Crews worked quickly to extinguish a fire that destroyed a trailer in Pippy Park in St. John's Wednesday.

Clouds of black smoke could be seen from the Confederation Building shortly before noon.

Captain Sean Corbett of the St. John's Regional Fire Department said the RV was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived in the park, just west of Confederation Building.

"There was some indication initially that it might be propane, but the cause is under investigation and we'll have to wait and see."

There was no one inside the trailer, Corbett said, and police were trying to contact the owners.

"There was some concern in the park that there may be some animals in the RV," he said, but that wasn't the case.

"It's pretty ugly, but there's no loss of life so that's the main part."
