Police arrested a man after a pedestrian was seriously injured during a hit and run on the west coast of Newfoundland.

RCMP responded to a call around 8 p.m. on Thursday about an injured man on the regional highway in Meadows.

Emergency personnel located the man and brought him to hospital in Corner Brook.

Police reconstructed the scene and later arrested a 59-year-old man.

The driver has been released to appear in court in June.

RCMP said the injured pedestrian is recovering from his injuries.
