St. John's businessman Paul Antle, who placed second in last fall's Liberal leadership race, is putting together plans to represent a city district in the House of Assembly.

Antle said he will run for the party's nomination in St. John's East.

The seat is currently held by New Democrat George Murphy, who defeated Tory incumbent Ed Buckingham in the 2011 election.

Formerly known as St. John's Centre, the district has not been represented by a Liberal since former cabinet minister Hubert Kitchen, who held the seat between 1989 and 1996.

Antle ran unsuccessfully for the Liberals in the 2006 federal election in the riding of St. John's East.
