A woman from Paradise has a million reasons to smile.

Evelyn Russell was handed an Atlantic Lottery cheque for $1 million on Friday.

When Russell stopped to have her ticket checked for the Oct. 9 Atlantic 49 draw, she thought the machine was broken.

"She [the clerk] sort of looked funny and said, 'Uh, I think you won a million.' Then she printed it and I knew," said Russell.

She said she doesn't remember the four-minute drive to her son's home. But upon arrival she asked her daughter-in-law to call the family as soon as possible.

After sharing the big news, the family celebrated with a limousine ride around town.

Russell said she won't retire from her job as secretary for her husband's small business, but she will go shopping and try to convince her husband to take a vacation.

Russell is the 5th person in the province to hit the jackpot since February.
