Pair identified in fatal N.L. shootings
RCMP are investigating a suspected murder-suicide at a medical clinic on Newfoundland's Port au Port Peninsula.
RCMP said a woman, 49, was shot dead Monday at the clinic in De Grau and a man, 54, was taken to hospital in nearby Stephenville where he later died.
Relatives have identified them as Stephanie Chaisson and her estranged husband, Luke Chaisson.
Sources told CBC News that Chaisson walked into the clinic with two guns and fired at Chaisson, who was the office receptionist. It's believed he then shot himself.
"What I heard is that he shot her twice, then shot himself in the chest," said Leigh Costard, who said Luke Chaisson was his cousin.
The couple was married but had separated, Costard told CBC News, and she was living in Stephenville with their daughter. He said the relationship was rocky, and that she had a peace bond against him.
"From what I hear, he's made a lot of threats against her and stuff in the past …not really a big surprise," Costard said.
Still, he said Monday’s shooting has shocked people in the small community. The medical clinic was closed while the RCMP continued their investigation.
