CUPE representative David Reynolds is recommending members back a tentative deal with St. John's. ((CBC))

The union representing outside workers in St. John's has reached a tentative deal with the city, but is saying little about the package.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees represents about 400 snowplow operators, garbage collectors and other staff.

National representative David Reynolds said the tentative deal was reached with the aid of a conciliation officer from the Newfoundland and Labrador government.

Reynolds said details are being withheld until members are briefed next Monday afternoon at St. Theresa's Parish Hall.

He said, however, there are improvements in salary and benefits. The bargaining committee is recommending that members back the offer.

The old contract expired last month.
