The RCMP have arrested a man in Pembroke, Ont., for an alleged sexual assault against a child in northern Newfoundland.

Police started an investigation in September when they received a complaint of sexual assault against a girl living in the St. Anthony area.

Police are releasing few details about the case, including the ages of the accused and the complainant.

RCMP said the man was in custody and was being taken to Corner Brook, where he will appear in court.

"Due to the age of the victim and the sensitivity of the investigation all names are being withheld," the police said in a statement.

Charges against the man include sexual assault and sexual interference against a minor.
