It's been a busy week for politics in Newfoundland and Labrador, with celebrity candidates, the latest in the Progressive Conservative leadership race, Bill 29 hearings and a provincial byelection looming.

Last week, Seamus O'Regan officially announced he would be seeking the Liberal nomination in St. John's South-Mount Pearl, going up against NDP MP Ryan Cleary in the next federal election.

Additionally, the Tories are entering the final stages of their leadership race, with selection coming up on Sept. 13. A key provincial byelection in St. George's-Stephenville East is also set for Aug. 26.

All this, at the same time Clyde Wells and the committee reviewing the province's access to information laws wraps up its hearings in St. John's.

On this week's On Point with David Cochrane, media panellists Anthony Germain of the St. John's Morning Show and The Telegram's Russell Wangersky are featured to discuss the latest political developments.
