On Point: Byelection defeat; Charlene Johnson's possible political departure
It has been yet another busy week in Newfoundland and Labrador politics, and things aren't boding well for the Tory camp.
On this week's episode of On Point with host David Cochrane, political panellists George Murphy, Tom Osborne and David Brazil weigh in on a big week in provincial politics.
The PCs suffered a byelection loss in Joan Shea's riding of St. George's-Stephenville East to Liberal Scott Reid — growing the margin of defeat.
On top of that, MHA and Finance Minister Charlene Johnson is poised to resign — all this during union talks over pension reform.
"You hate to lose any colleague, particularly one that has been so committed to the party, so committed to the caucus, and so committed and diligently successful as a minister," Service NL Minister David Brazil said.
"I know if Charlene chooses to leave, it's in the best interest of her family and not because of any other reason."
