Not guilty plea in Wabush hit-and-run
A man accused of being drunk behind the wheel in a fatal collision in western Labrador has pleaded not guilty.
Jeremy Shannon Reid is facing six criminal charges including impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death, impaired operation causing bodily harm, and failing to stop at a scene where someone died.
The charges were laid in connection with a crash in Wabush on Dec. 5, 2010.
Reid pleaded not guilty to all charges when he appeared in Supreme Court in Wabush on Thursday.
Shane Mercer, 30, died several weeks after he and his friend Lesia Penney were hit by a Jeep while walking home from a party. Penney is still recovering from her injuries.
The defence is pushing for the trial to be held in St. John's.
Reid is applying for bail while he awaits trial, which is expected to start in the fall.
