Police have charged a man for being impaired while operating a boat in Gros Morne National Park.

On Thursday, officials with Parks Canada and the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans caught up with the man who was operating a small recreational boat in Bonne Bay.

RCMP said the man, a resident of nearby Norris Point, was issued a 90-day driving suspension, and faces a charge of impaired operation of a vessel.

He also faces charges under the Liquor Control Act after alcohol was found on the boat.

"The warm summer weather has resulted in many recreational vessels on the waters of Bonne Bay," RCMP in Rocky Harbour said in a statement.

"Impaired operation of a vessel carries the same penalties as operating a car or any other motorized vehicle."
