A new food truck is open for business in downtown St. John's.
Happy Camper opened last weekend on New Gower Street, across from the Mile One Centre.
The truck specializes in tacos, noodle dishes, salads, and smoothies.
Owner Kathie Hicks said at first, she was looking for space to open up a healthy fast-food restaurant. But when a food truck became available for purchase, she said couldn't resist.
"So I said, 'Let's get into the food truck game,' and it's time that St. John's had a truck that was more than french fries and hot dogs and sausages, so that's what I did," she said.
Hicks said her food truck is different from others in the market, because the menu was developed by David Badcock, the former chef of Atlantica.
"Many people know him. He's extraordinary; he's the one who brought the magic to it to make it really happen," she said.
"Everything is healing, fresh, and good for your body. And it's my contribution to making Newfoundlanders that much healthier. I think it's awesome."
Happy Camper is open daily until 8 p.m.
