New Avondale race track means more motorsport in N.L.
Up until now, motorsport fans in this province have had to find old airstrips or backwoods dirt tracks to have a little fun, but times are changing now that investor Pat Squires of Islander RV has put his money behind his love of racing.
Squires is doing it in grand style.
The Eastbound Raceway and Concert Park occupies the site of the old track in Avondale. It's got fresh new asphalt on both the 1/3 mile oval and the 1/8 mile drag strip.
It also has go kart racing for the kids and stadium seating for almost 5,000 spectators. The site comes with an ambitious business plan that includes big-name concerts and family camping.
Executive Producer Mike James gave the CBC's Jonathan Crowe a guided tour.
