Memorial University's School of Music received a significant financial boost Tuesday.

A gift of $1 million was donated to the school by philanthropists Jean and Angus Bruneau. The money will be used to create the Bruneau Centre for Excellence in Choral Music.

The couple share a passion for music. Angus Bruneau said nurturing musical talent gives him joy.

"To enrich the lives of others, help others with talent, that's what living is all about," said Bruneau.

The donation, however, is not the first time the Bruneaus have made a donation to Memorial.

In 2007, they gave the Faculty of Engineering and Science a million dollars. Angus Bruneau was faculty dean from 1969 to 1974.

Established in 1975, the Memorial University School of Music is now the largest music school in Atlantic Canada.
