An RCMP officer has been charged with perjury and obstruction of justice while he was working in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Const. Shawn Green, 34, is accused of committing the criminal offences on July 9, 2011 while he was stationed at the Trinity-Conception detachment in Harbour Grace.
The RCMP issued a news release on the matter Tuesday, saying Greene was charged on Feb. 10.
The charges stem from allegations made in May of last year. An independent investigation into the complaint was conducted by Halifax Regional Police at the request of the RCMP, resulting in charges being laid.
The offences are alleged to have occurred before Greene was transferred to Richmond County, N.S., in February 2012.
The RCMP said he's been suspended with pay while the force conducts its own internal investigation, and pending the outcome in court.
Greene is due to appear in Harbour Grace provincial court on April 9.
The Mounties said no other information would be released while the matter is before the courts.
