The RCMP in Port aux Basques say a man from Louisiana was killed in a motorcycle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near Doyles on Friday.

Around 5 p.m., police responded to the single-vehicle collision approximately five kilometres east of Doyles.

The male driver of the motorcycle, 72, was killed in the crash.

Police said the driver lost control, and the motorcycle left the highway.

According to the RCMP, the rider and two friends were touring the province on their motorcycles and had just arrived on the Marine Atlantic ferry in Port aux Basques.

The driver was conscious and alert at the scene, but later died suddenly in hospital.

The RCMP said road conditions, alcohol, and speed were not factors in the collision.

The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing, with the assistance of the Medical Examiner's Office.

Police are not releasing the man's identity until his family has been notified.
