The province’s newest MHA has been sworn in, and has announced that she is supporting Dwight Ball in the Liberal leadership race.
Lisa Dempster, who won the recent Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair byelection, told reporters that Ball is the right person for the job.
"I’ve observed him. I’ve watched the polls closely. He’s been very successful in business. In my mind, I believe it’s not a whole lot different running the province. There’s lots of similarities," she said.
Ball now has the support of the entire Liberal caucus, with the exception of rival leadership candidate Jim Bennett.
"Lisa is someone, of course, that I consider to be a friend, and someone that we worked very hard on the campaign with in Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair," Ball said.
"So I’m pleased to hear that Lisa is endorsing my leadership bid."
Ball has also been endorsed by three Liberal MPs: Judy Foote, Yvonne Jones, and Gerry Byrne.
The only other candidate with an elected endorser is Paul Antle, who has the support of MP Scott Simms.
There is one prominent Liberal who is still neutral in the race. Avalon MP Scott Andrews says he may endorse a candidate in the fall.
