The Oceanex Connaigra, one of Canada's largest cargo ships, has been docked for the past three weeks for repairs.
The state-of-the-art vessel is currently in Boston awaiting the arrival of parts from Europe.
The ship, which is 210 metres long and cost $108 million, was launched in St. John's in October.
Sid Hynes, the executive chair of the St. John's based shipping company Oceanex, said he hopes to have the mechanical problems resolved by the end of the holidays.
The company has pressed its vessel Cabot back into service to complete the company's delivery work.
Hynes said there has been no impact on the company's service.
