MHA Andrews Parsons says cuts planned to Marine Atlantic ferry crossings will have a big impact on local businesses on the southwest coast of the island.
Last week, the Crown corporation announced it would have two fewer trips a week between Port aux Basques and North Sydney.
Parsons, the MHA for Burgeo-La Poile, said calls from concerned local business owners have already started coming in.
He said tourists are already calling to cancel reservations.
Parsons added fewer trips will also mean a dip in employment for people in his district.
"This is the biggest employer in our area and this decision to not increase the service can result in a lot of people not getting work this summer, which is obviously very negative and I'm getting a lot of calls about it," said Parsons.
He said it's disappointing to see the service cut just as the busy summer season is starting to get underway.
Marine Atlantic said last week it has seen a 10 per cent drop in commercial traffic since 2013.
