Marijuana plants were seized Wednesday evening after RCMP officers raided a home in Melrose.

Police say they have shut down a marijuana grow operation on Newfoundland's Bonavista Peninsula.

The RCMP's Bonavista detachment used a warrant on Wednesday night to search a home in Melrose.

The Mounties said they found an indoor grow-op, but have not yet disclosed how much marijuana was seized. In a statement, the force said it seized "plants of varying stages of development."

Officers also seized drug trade paraphernalia.

A Melrose man, 35, was arrested at the scene and later released.

He will appear in provincial court in Clarenville at a later date on charges of both possession and production of a controlled substance.
