A man owing more than $40,000 in fines was arrested during a traffic safety stop in Mount Pearl on Friday.

The 30-year-old was pulled over by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary on Mount Carson Avenue around 10:30 a.m.

Police said there was an outstanding warrant of arrest for the man — who was also driving a stolen vehicle with a stolen plate attached to it.

Officers charged the man with two counts of possession of stolen property and breaching probation.

He was also fined for a number of offences, including driving while suspended and having no valid insurance.

The vehicle was impounded and the driver was conveyed to court.
