A 20-year-old man from Conception Bay South is facing multiple charges following a police chase that ended in a car crash on Monday.
Tyler Davis is accused of stealing an SUV in Kelligrews, in the RNC's jurisdiction. But the vehicle left the area and ventured into RCMP territory on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The SUV then headed down the Holyrood Access Road, where it went out of control and ended up in the woods.
"The vehicle rolled over multiple times and came to rest in the wooded area," said RCMP Sgt. Barry Pitcher.
Police allege Davis got out of the vehicle and ran into the bushes. He was tracked down about 200 metres from the SUV.
The suspect was not injured.
"He's been transported to the Health Sciences [Centre] in custody for observation," said Pitcher, adding, "there were no other vehicles and no one else was on the road when he lost control."
Davis is facing nine charges, including stealing the SUV, impaired driving, refusing the breathalyzer, and driving while disqualified.
He's also charged with three breaches of probation.
Davis already has a significant criminal record with previous convictions for assaults, assaults with weapons, assault causing bodily harm and impaired driving, among others.
He will be back in court tomorrow for a bail hearing.
