The Delta Boeing 757 was diverted to St. John's International Airport shortly after 12 a.m., when a man became ill on board.

The plane was en route from Newark, New Jersey, to Amsterdam at the time.

An official with the airport authority said the passenger was isolated and taken to the Health Sciences Centre for diagnosis and treatment.

The plane was back in the air within an hour.
