Belleisle Farms brand coleslaw is being hauled off grocery store shelves in this province, and throughout Atlantic Canada.

The recall was prompted by concerns that the product could be contaminated with listeria.

The coleslaw is a Roy Pope and Sons product with a best-before date of August 19, 2014.

Food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled.

Listeria is a bacteria that, when eaten, can cause listeriosis, a serious infection. Pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.

So far, no illnesses have been reported in this case.
