A former candidate for the Liberal leadership, Danny Dumaresque, hopes to represent a northeastern Newfoundland district in the house of assembly after the next provincial election.

Dumaresque will run for the Liberal Party in the district of the Isles of Notre Dame this fall.

Progressive Conservative Derrick Dalley currently represents the district.

Dumaresque considered seeking the nomination in Lake Melville and then Baie Verte-Springdale but backed out after testing interest in both districts.

He's a businessman and has served as the Liberal Party's president. He was an MHA when Clyde Wells was premier.

Dumaresque was one of seven people who ran for the Liberal leadership after former leader Yvonne Jones resigned from the job for health reasons.

The next provincial election will be held on Oct.11.
